Brandy Ford Brandy is a pleasure to work with and she brings a helpful skill set to her volunteer role. She's an RN and she gently and diligently assists vets as they vaccinate pets at Shot Clinics. She does so with a bright smile on her face. Of course it helps that Brandy absolutely loves animals! We are so glad to have her on the team! Thank you for your time, Brandy *** MHC Volunteer since: Over a year Volunteer position/s? Shot & Chip Clinics. I prepare the vaccines for the animals and frequently get to assist the Vets with giving the immunizations or placing the microchips each month. We typically see well over 125-140 animals each month and has been over 200 a couple of times in the summer months. I did do visits with the animals that are in the adoption center, but quickly found it was so difficult to leave them, so I had to back off from doing that. Fun Facts: I have reached a personal professional goal of working as a RN for 50 years this year and this is huge for me. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was 12. I'm from Dallas and went to TWU and A& M later in life when women could go. I enjoy my job so much, I can't bring myself to retire yet. I am a Certified School Nurse for MISD at Carver Center, which is the elementary Gifted & Talented program for MISD. I get the pleasure of taking 40 students with a few parents to hear all of the Midland Odessa Symphony MasterWorks performances each year and that is such a special treat. Got pets? I have a Asian Leopard and domestically bred Bobcat and my Service Dog Holly. She is a very large white Lab that I adopted from the Adoption Center inside PetSmart and that is how I got involved with being a volunteer for MHC. She was a 2y/o surrender and when I saw her I fell in love with her and soon found out how smart she is and began our year of training to be a service dog. She goes on SouthWest with me and everywhere.
In your opinion, what is the most important work that this organization does?
Of course one of the top priorities is to stop killing animals in the shelters and having a wonderful environment like the Adoption Center is terrific for perspective guardians to meet and see if their current family members will be able to meld with a new pet. Has volunteering with MHC had a positive impact on your life? Tell us about a time/incident that was especially meaningful for you while volunteering with MHC. I believe it was in December at our monthly clinic, a couple found a brother & sister mixed breed puppies and rescued them and wanted to get them their first set of immunizations and brought them in to us and when we were informed they were available to be adopted, their pictures were put on the MHC website right then and before we were done with our two hour clinic that morning, one of the puppies was adopted!!! What a terrific win all the way around. Just this simple act of kindness by these 2 people prevented the death of these 2 puppies and that would have been such a shame as they were so very sweet and cute. If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with MHC, what would you tell them? Whether you have 30 minutes or 3 hours of time to volunteer, there is an animal that will benefit from that time. I know there is one lady that takes her book to read and gets in the habitat with one of the animals and just loves on them while reading her book!!! Who is the winner here I ask you??? What is your favorite thing about volunteering with MHC? Getting to meet the people in our community that share the common love of animals is so much fun and getting to see all the different kinds of dogs and cats is all an animal over like me can ask for!! What a gift to be a part of MHC!! Ashley Trout There's no doubt as to how much Ashley loves animals. For one, she's got three cats of her own and is looking forward to fostering more! She also spends her free time hanging out with cats & dogs at the Adoption Center. You can also see her smiling face while helping pets get at our Shot Clinics! Thank you for your time, Ashley! *** MHC Volunteer since: Fall of 2018. Volunteer position/s? Socializing adult cats at the Adoption Center, dog walking, Shot Clinics. I plan to start fostering once our new home is completed. When my youngest starts school full time I hope to help out even more in any areas needed. Fun Facts: I am originally from Decatur, Illinois. I graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. I moved to Houston, Texas shortly after to pursue an internship and escape the cold weather. That is where I met my husband, Michael and after having our first daughter we decided to move back to his home town, Midland. We moved here the first time in 2011 but were only here for just over a year. We returned to Midland this past summer when my husband was transferred back. We now have two daughters ages 5 and 7. I am a stay at home mom who enjoys volunteering, cooking, traveling and hanging out with my kids. Got pets? We have 3 cats. Wednesday, Tuesday and Sunday. Named after the day we rescued them. Why do you volunteer with MHC? I volunteer at MHC because I love animals. Volunteering at MHC is important to me because not all dogs and cats are fortunate enough to have a forever home. So many are helpless and they need a voice and MHC is creating that voice. It's also important to provide the community with low cost shot clinics so that the animals that do have homes can remain healthy. Just knowing that this organization is working and that so many animals have found loving homes through MHC motivates me to stay involved. In your opinion, what is the most important work that this organization does? I feel that the most important work that this organization does is creating awareness especially through the media. Has volunteering with MHC had a positive impact on your life? Volunteering with MHC has definitely had a positive impact on my life. It's always very meaningful for me when I read a sad back story on an animal and then when I greet them at their cage they are so loving and affectionate like nothing bad ever happened to them. If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with MHC, what would you tell them? I would tell them how rewarding it is to help animals in need. There are so many ways that you can help out with MHC so there is something for everybody. What is your favorite thing about volunteering with MHC? MHC is a very well run organization and I know that they are making a huge impact on the health and lives of dogs and cats in our community. This makes me proud to be a part of something great like MHC. Volunteering with MHC has definitely had a positive impact on my life. It's always very meaningful for me when I read a sad back story on an animal and then when I greet them at their cage they are so loving and affectionate like nothing bad ever happened to them. Courtni Pyle Courtni is one of our most active and dedicated volunteers - whatever MHC needs, she's always happy to help with a smile on her face! Chalk it up to her passion for animals! You have probably seen her cheerful face at one of our events. She and her husband DJ are part of a small team responsible for making those monthly Microchip Clinics at Beer Garden possible. Thank you so much, Courtni! *** MHC Volunteer since: Since 2016 Volunteer position/s? I started volunteering in 2016 when I first volunteered the help coordinate the Hot Dog Run. I have helped with the Hot Dog Run, the Fur Ball, shot clinics, fostering, and I run the chip clinics at Yappy Hour. Anytime I go into PetSmart, I stop by and love on some of the babies! Fun Facts: I am a native Midlander and I currently work at Keller Williams. I don't have much time for hobbies outside of work and volunteering, but I love reading when I can. Got pets? My husband and I have 4 dogs, but we regularly foster for local rescues. Why do you volunteer with MHC? What motivates you to stay involved? I have a passion for animals and I think education is so important. I really love interacting with the community and teaching them about all the resources that are available. In your opinion, what is the most important work that this organization does? I love the emphasis on community involvement and what we can offer the people of Midland with our low cost clinics. Has volunteering with MHC had a positive impact on your life? Tell us about a time/incident that was especially meaningful for you while volunteering with MHC. I scan dogs regularly, and I love it when I can talk to people about our shot clinics, then I see them at the next one! It helps me know that a simple conversation can change the life of a pet! If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with MHC, what would you tell them? It only takes 1 or 2 days a month if you volunteer for the same events regularly. 1 or 2 days to make such a huge impact! What is your favorite thing about volunteering with MHC? I really love the opportunity to educate and work with the community. It is amazing knowing that we are helping families. It only takes 1 or 2 days a month if you volunteer for the same events regularly. 1 or 2 days to make such a huge impact! Vanessa & Destiny Rodriguez (mom & daughter) This amazing mother & daughter volunteer duo has been helping out at Shot Clinics monthly. Destiny happily spends her Saturdays assisting clients and getting to hang out with the pets while their owners fill in forms. She enjoys it a bit too much -- that at one clinic they ended up ADOPTING A PUPPY! What an inspiration these two are to moms & teenagers all over! Thanks for your time, Vanessa & Destiny! *** MHC Volunteer since: December 2018. Volunteer position/s? Shot & Chip Clinics - Vanessa works one of the clinic stations while Destiny assists clients in handling pets. Vanessa is also a pet foster and is currently part of MHC's Hot Dog Run Organizing Committee. Fun Facts: We currently live in Midland but are originally from El Paso. I work at Pioneer Natural Resources as an accountant and Destiny is a sophomore at Lee High School. We are a family of 4; my husband, Destiny, Alexa and myself. However, we also have 2 dogs. As a family we love to travel and look forward to visiting new places. Got pets? 2 dogs - Temo is a 9 year old Lab and Remy is a 2 year old Yorkie. Why do you volunteer with MHC? We began to volunteer with MHC because Destiny needed community service hours for her confirmation class but then continued volunteering, even after she obtained the necessary hours, because we found joy in doing so. What motivates you to stay involved? Volunteering at MHC is important to us because we are able to give back and serve our local community. Having 2 dogs at home (which I call my boys) keeps us motivated because we want all dogs/cats to have an opportunity to have a loving and caring home like our boys do.
If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with MHC, what would you tell them? I would tell them that we as volunteers have a big impact on a countless amount of dogs/cats even if it is by just volunteering a few hours a month. What is your favorite thing about volunteering with MHC? We love seeing all those cutie dogs/cats on shot clinic days! MHC has most definitely had an impact on our lives. It has opened up our eyes to the amount of help that is needed by organizations like MHC to better the life of so many dog/cats. |
