Vanessa & Destiny Rodriguez (mom & daughter)

This amazing mother & daughter volunteer duo has been helping out at Shot Clinics monthly. Destiny happily spends her Saturdays assisting clients and getting to hang out with the pets while their owners fill in forms. She enjoys it a bit too much -- that at one clinic they ended up ADOPTING A PUPPY!  What an inspiration these two are to moms & teenagers all over!

Thanks for your time, Vanessa & Destiny!

MHC Volunteer since: December 2018.

Volunteer position/s?

Shot & Chip Clinics - Vanessa works one of the clinic stations while Destiny assists clients in handling pets. Vanessa is also a pet foster and is currently part of MHC's  Hot Dog Run Organizing Committee.

Fun Facts:
We currently live in Midland but are originally from El Paso. I work at Pioneer Natural Resources as an accountant and Destiny is a sophomore at Lee High School. We are a family of 4; my husband, Destiny, Alexa and myself. However, we also have 2 dogs. As a family we love to travel and look forward to visiting new places.

Got pets?
2 dogs - Temo is a 9 year old Lab and Remy is a 2 year old Yorkie.

Why do you volunteer with MHC?
We began to volunteer with MHC because Destiny needed community service hours for her confirmation class but then continued volunteering, even after she obtained the necessary hours, because we found joy in doing so.

What motivates you to stay involved?
Volunteering at MHC is important to us because we are able to give back and serve our local community. Having 2 dogs at home (which I call my boys) keeps us motivated because we want all dogs/cats to have an opportunity to have a loving and caring home like our boys do.

Has volunteering with MHC had a positive impact on your life?
MHC has most definitely had an impact on our lives. It has opened up our eyes to the amount of help that is needed by organizations like MHC to better the life of so many dog/cats. While volunteering at a shot clinic we ended up adopting a puppy that had been brought to MHC just a few days earlier. He didn’t end up staying with us since, while visiting family on Christmas break, they fell in love with him and we knew he would be a perfect fit in their home. He now walks the kids to school every day and even waits around for them to walk back home!

If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with MHC, what would you tell them?

I would tell them that we as volunteers have a big impact on a countless amount of dogs/cats even if it is by just volunteering a few hours a month.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with MHC?
We love seeing all those cutie dogs/cats on shot clinic days!

MHC has most definitely had an impact on our lives. It has opened up our eyes to the amount of help that is needed by organizations like MHC to better the life of so many dog/cats.
