In the event your pet goes missing, please check Midland Animal Services, often the first stop for all strays and found animals in the area.
If your pet happens to end up at Midland Humane Coalition, follow our reclaim procedures below to get reunited with your pet quickly.
Stray Hold & Reclaim Policy
At Midland Humane Coalition, we understand how stressful it is when a beloved pet goes missing. Our goal is to provide a safe temporary haven for found animals while making every reasonable effort to reunite them with their owners.
Stray Hold Period
Midland Humane Coalition follows the State of Texas recommended stray hold guidelines.

Reclaiming Your Pet
Owners may reclaim their pet at any time during the applicable stray hold period by providing proof of ownership and a valid government-issued photo ID.
As Midland Humane Coalition is a nonprofit rescue organization—not a municipal animal shelter—a boarding fee of $25 per day will be assessed for each day the animal is housed in our care. This fee helps offset the costs of food, housing, cleaning, and daily care provided during the animal's stay.
Proof of Ownership
To ensure animals are returned to their rightful owners, Midland Humane Coalition requires reasonable proof of ownership before releasing a pet.

After the Hold Period
If an animal is not reclaimed before the applicable stray hold period expires, ownership of the animal transfers to Midland Humane Coalition. At that time, the animal will receive any necessary medical care, behavioral evaluations, and will be placed into our adoption program to find a loving forever home.
Our Commitment
Midland Humane Coalition exists to save the lives of homeless animals in our community. While we are committed to helping lost pets safely return home whenever possible, our rescue facility has limited space. Providing temporary care for found animals requires space and resources that would otherwise be available to animals awaiting rescue from local shelters or emergency situations.
We appreciate the community's understanding and cooperation as we balance reunification efforts with our lifesaving mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need.
Midland Humane Coalition reserves the right to refuse the release of any animal if ownership cannot be reasonably established or if doing so would violate applicable state or local laws.

Stray Hold & Reclaim Policy
At Midland Humane Coalition, we understand how stressful it is when a beloved pet goes missing. Our goal is to provide a safe temporary haven for found animals while making every reasonable effort to reunite them with their owners.
Stray Hold Period
Midland Humane Coalition follows the State of Texas recommended stray hold guidelines.
- Animals without identification (no collar with owner information and no registered microchip) will be held for three (3) working days.
- Animals with identification (a collar with owner information or a registered microchip) will be held for five (5) working days to allow additional time for owners to be contacted and reclaim their pet.
During the stray hold period, Midland Humane Coalition will:
- Report the found animal to Midland Animal Services.
- Scan the animal for a microchip.
- Make reasonable efforts to locate and contact the owner using available identification and resources.
- Provide food, shelter, and basic daily care while the animal remains in our custody.
